Dinaric-Alp-Platform-Meeting- Ljubljana Transnational exchange platform for the management of large carnivores in the Dinaric region, Meeting 1 Ljubljana | 15-16 November 2021
The aim of the meeting was to bring together government representatives from the Dinarides, focusing on Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo*1, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia with the involvement of Bulgaria and Greece, to discuss common approaches to large carnivore (LC) population management across the region. This builds on the years of work of experts in the region to establish a transnational exchange/dialogue platform. In particular, the group referred to the “Budva Statement” agreed at an EU Platform on Coexistence between People and Large Carnivores2 regional meeting in Budva, Montenegro3 where participants called for the establishment of a LC platform in the Dinarides4. This showed clearly the interest of state representatives, scientists, NGOs and stakeholder groups to establish a participative approach between countries. This meeting brought the discussions to the government level and took the first steps towards a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the topic.
